In the month of Ramadan we do all kinds of ibadah (worshiping Allah), one of the things we do is khatam Quran, how can we do that in just 30 days let’s find out.
How to do the khatam Quran? To do khatam Quran should read one juz every day. Each juz is about 20 pages long, so you could do one of the following: read 4 pages after every obligatory prayer or read 10 pages in the morning or 10 pages in the evening. Or read 5 pages in the morning, noon, afternoon, and night.
You should choose what suits you best. There are many strategies out there in order to choose the one you should look at the best method that suits your schedule.
Now let’s see how to do khatam step by step.
How to do Khatam the Quran step by step:
As the month of fasting is approaching we start to search for the best way to finish reading the whole Quran in one month.
Ramadan is the month when we focus on worshiping God and doing all kinds of ibadah and reciting the Quran is one of them. So here are some steps to follow that will help you do Khatam by the end of the month.
1- Start with the right intentions:
The first thing you should do is to start with making the intention to finish reading the Quran by the end of the month.
So the first step is to make the intention before you start reading so that Allah helps you along the way.
According to Umar ibn al-Khattab the prophet said:
إِنَّمَا الْأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ وَإِنَّمَا لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مَا نَوَى
Meaning: “Verily, actions are by intentions and every person will attain what they have intended for.”
The intention is the first step in your journey with doing khatam Quran. Allah will give us the strength and motivation we need to complete our journey.
2- Have the determination to complete the Quran:
Intention alone is not enough. You must have the determination that will keep you encouraged to start reading the Quran and continue until you finish the whole Quran.
If you want to do something you will do it no matter what stops in your way this also applies to khatam Quran. If you want to finish the whole Quran you will. Allah says in the Quran:
اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوۡمٍ حَتّٰى يُغَيِّرُوۡا مَا بِاَنۡفُسِهِمۡ
Meaning: “Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves” (Surah ar-Ra’d, 13:11)
The right intention and determination on achieving something will guide you and motivate you all the way until you reach your goal.
3- Choose the right strategy that suits you the best to do khatam quran:
There is no one way to do the khatam Quran there are many strategies out there some will work for you and some won’t.
For example, someone would say I want to do khatam Quran two times this Ramadan so he will read two juzu each day.” Someone else will find that this is really hard to do and wants to finish the Quran only one time. So he will read one juz every day.
Allah said in the holy Quran:
وَ جَعَلۡنٰکُمۡ شُعُوۡبًا وَّ قَبَآئِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوۡا
“ And We have made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another.”
(Surah al-Hujurat, 49:13)
From this verse, we understand that we are all different in some ways. Each and every one of us has our own way of thinking and way of life. We all have our strong points and limitations, all the differences between us help us learn from each other.
One of those differences includes the ability to read more than one juz of the Quran or less than one. Some would choose a specific time of the day to recite the Quran and finish a specific number of pages. While others may prefer to read whenever they can.
4 Strategies to read the Quran
Here are some strategies that you could choose from:
To recite and do the khatam Quran you should read one juz each day, each juz is about 20 pages. You could choose one of the following strategies:
- You can Read 4 pages a day after each obligatory prayer.
- Or Read 4 pages a day, 2 before each Fardhu prayer and 2 more after.
- Alternatively, Read 5 pages in the morning, 5 pages at noon, 5 pages in the afternoon, and 5 pages at night.
- Read 10 pages in the morning and 10 pages in the evening.
As you can see there is no one way to finish the Quran, your role here is to try and choose what is working for you.
4- Keep reciting the Quran consistently:
Reading the Quran every day to do khatam in one month is not easy, it will take some time and effort from you to find out which strategy works best for you.
However, with time, reciting the Quran daily with the goal of doing the Khatam Quran will become a habit and the process will become easier.
Aisyah reported that the Prophet said:
اكلَفوا من العملِ ما تُطيقون ؛ و إنَّ أحبَّ العملِ إلى اللهِ تعالى أَدْوَمُه وإن قَلَّ
Meaning: “Take up good deeds only as much as you are able to, for the best deeds are those which are done consistently even if they are few.”
As we understand from this hadith Islam values consistency as Allah and the prophet consider it as the best deeds.
So if you have the goal of the Khatam Quran you should read regularly and with time you will build the habit of reading the Quran every day.
5- Get a friend or family member to journey with you:
We know the saying, “who you spend your time with is who you become”. You should find someone that will help you along the way and keep you motivated to complete the whole Quran.
According to Abu Hurayrah, the Prophet said,
“ A man is upon the religion of his best friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends.”
(Sunan at-Tirmidhi)
Choosing the right or wrong friend will affect your life, so make sure to make the right choice. The right friend will always motivate you, support you and always be there for you when you need help.
Find that person and read the Quran together, this will be a great motivation to you and you won’t feel bored or stop reciting Quran because when you do you will find a friend that will encourage you to continue.
