What are the benefits of reading Surah Baqarah?
Reciting the Holy Quran is something that we should do daily. And one of the most powerful surahs to be read is surah al-Baqarah. And the most famous Aya to read is Ayat ul-Kursi.
It is famous for being the greatest verse of the Quran. We should memorize it and recite it regularly and after each salah.
“Allah! There is no god [worthy of worship] except Him, the Ever-Living, All-Sustaining. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who could possibly intercede with Him without His permission? He [fully] knows what is ahead of them and what is behind them, but no one can grasp any of His knowledge—except what He wills [to reveal]. His Seat encompasses the heavens and the earth, and the preservation of both does not tire Him. For He is the Most High, the Greatest.”
(Quran 2:255)
The verse shows us that there is no god but Allah and his magnificence.
The prophet said:
“Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi at the end of every obligatory prayer, nothing but death will prevent him from entering Paradise.”
(al-Mu’jam al-Kabīr 7406)
Be sure to recite it after each prayer, before sleeping and when waking up. We always hear people talk about the benefits of reading surah Baqarah for 30 days and the benefits of reading surah Baqarah for 7 days.
So why should we read it daily? Let’s find out.
But, why is it so important to read? This Aya shows Allah’s power and glory. There’s a hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessing be upon him) said
“For everything, there is a hump (pinnacle) and the hump (pinnacle) of the Qur’an is Surah Al-Baqarah, in it, there is an Ayah which is the master of the Ayat in the Qur’an; [it is] Ayat ul-Kursi.”
One of its major benefits is that it protects you from Shaitan (Satan). Reciting surah al-Baqarah daily will protect us from anyone who wishes us harm, the evil eye, and witchcraft.
Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said:
“Satan runs away from the house in which Surah Baqarah is recited.”
Also, there are many hadiths about the significance of reading the last two verses.
Abu Mas’ud Al-Badri narrated: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) saying, “He who recites the two Ayat [verses] at the end of Surat Al Baqarah at night, they will suffice him. “
It is said that one of the benefits of reading surah Baqarah for 40 days is: it helps get rid of the devils and evil eyes from the house.
Reciting Surah Baqarah daily holds rewards for us on the Day of Judgment.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“Recite the Quran, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who recite It, Recite the two bright ones, al-Baqarah, and Surah Al ‘Imran, for on the Day of Resurrection they will come as two clouds or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recite them. Recite Surah al-Baqarah, to take recourse to it is a blessing and to give it up is a cause of grief, and the magicians cannot confront it.”
The prophet taught us about the benefits of reciting the last two verses in the night and said:
“Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah by night that will suffice him”
The prophet (PBUH) said the following about Reading surah Baqarah, for 3 days in the night:
“Indeed Allah wrote in a book two thousand years before He created the heavens and the earth, and He sent down two Ayahs (verses) from it to end Surah al Baqarah with. If they are recited for three nights in a home, no Shaitan (devil) shall come near it.”
What Does Surah Al-Baqarah Teach Us?
Here’s what we learn from reciting Surah Al-Baqarah:
1- There is no grief for the believer.
“….so whenever guidance comes to you from Me, then whoever follows my guidance, then there will neither be any fear on them nor will they grieve.”
The Quran 2:38
We grieve for the mistakes and sins we’ve committed in the past. But what puts relief in our hearts is that Allah told us that no matter what we have committed in the past, he will always forgive us. As long as we come back to him asking for his mercy.
We should always keep Allah’s words close to our hearts. To make us feel better and removes the weight and negative emotions that we experience in life. Allah will always be there for us. Don’t remove this thought from your mind and you will have peace of mind.
2- There is no fear for the believer.
“…and when Allah parted the sea for you and He delivered you and drowned the people of Firawn while you were seeing.”
The Quran 2:50
We learn a lot from the story of the prophet Musa. Firaun and his men were after the prophet Musa and the believers. There was no place for them to run. They had Firaun and his men in one direction and the red sea in the other.
Even though the prophet Musa believed that Allah will save them and Allah did save them as the sea parted.
So whatever the situation or the hardship you’re going through, Allah will always be there for you. Have faith in him and all your worries will disappear.
3- Complete submission towards Allah.
“When his Fosterer said to him (Ibrahim), “Submit”, He replied, “I submit before the Fosterer of the worlds”
The Quran 2:131
As Muslims, we should submit to Allah in all situations. Even if you think that you can’t do it or it’s too difficult don’t follow your desires, submitting to Allah is always the way out of all situations.

Take your time and if there’s any word or verse you don’ understand look it up and find its meaning. If you don’t know how to read it correctly by yourself you could listen to your favorite reciter and repeat it after him. Pause the audio as much as you can and rewind it if you need to. You could also play it in the house to protect yourself from any evil.

- Divide the Surah on the day: whenever you’re free hold the Mushaf and recite a part of surah Al-Baqarah until you finish it.
What are the benefits of Surah Baqarah last 2 Ayat?
It was narrated that ‘Abdullah said:
“When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was taken on the Night Journey (Lailat al Miraj), he came to Sidrah Al-Muntaha, which is in the sixth heaven. That is where everything that comes up from below ends, and where everything that comes down from above, until it is taken from it. Allah says: When what covered the lote-tree did cover it! He said: “It was moths of gold. And I was given three things: The five daily prayers, the last verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, and whoever of my Ummah dies without associating anything with Allah will be forgiven for Al-Muqhimat.” The sins of the worst magnitude that drag one into the Fire.”
Abd al-Rahman b. Yazid said:
I asked Abu Mas’ud while he was making circumambulation of the Ka’bah (about the recitation of some verses from the Qur’an). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessing be upon him) said: If anyone recited two verses from the last of Surah al-Baqarah at night, they will be sufficient for him.
Abu Umama said he heard Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessing be upon him) say:
“Recite the Qur’an, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who recite It, Recite the two bright ones, al-Baqara and Surah Al ‘Imran, for on the Day of Resurrection they will come as two clouds or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recite them. Recite Surah al-Baqara, for to take recourse to it is a blessing and to give it up is a cause of grief, and the magicians cannot confront it.”
From the above hadith we understand that we should read the entire Quran to intercede for us on the day of judgement. Then the hadiths focus on the two surahs surahs, Baqarah and Imran and how reading the two Surahs will grant us Jannah.
Here’s a hadith about the importance of reading the last two verses of surah al-Baqarah before going to bed.
Abu Mas’ud Al-Badri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, ‘He who recites the two Ayat [verses] at the end of Surat Al Baqarah at night, they will suffice him. ‘ (Al- Bukhari and Muslim)
