  • Through Quranic and prophetic stories, one can connect and engage the child. Make storytime fun and interactive according to age level.

Through Memorization (Hifdh)

  • At a young age, most children can grasp and memorize with ease.
  • Start memorization with easy verses and gradually introduce more.
  • A child can quickly memorize simply by listening and repetition. Keep the Surahs playing in the house, and in no time, the child will have learned it.

Through Interpretation (Tafsir)

  • Understanding the meanings of the verses is of utmost importance. After all, the Quran was sent as a guide.
  • Enrolling kids in Islamic Studies classes, reading easy tafsir books, and Quranic stories will help them understand the meaning.
  • Tafsir and explanation of the Quran must be according to appropriate age levels. The idea is for the child to understand the meaning of the Quran and not confuse the child.
  • Implement what the child has learned. For example, if your child reads an ayah about charity, encourage the child to give a penny, a dollar a day, or toys in a donation.

Through Supplication and Worship (Dua’ and Salah)

  • When parents have a strong Muslim identity, children will follow. Children mimic and copy adults.
  • Create a routine of 5 daily prayers, where kids and adults pray together. Everything stops at Salah time, and everyone prays. Kids, at a very early age, will create these habits. Instruct kids to do five daily prayers at seven years of age.
  • Listening to Quran recited during Salah helps with memorization.
  • Help the child memorize the Quranic duas. Encourage them to make dua for you and others daily.

Through Sayings and Teachings of Prophet Muhammad ()

(Seerah and Hadith)

  • The Quranic journey must include the Seerah (sayings, teachings, and guidance) of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
  • Explanation of the Quran is to be completed with Ahadith and the Sunnah.
  • Start with simple, short one lined ahadith and include more in the study as you proceed.

Encourage, Acknowledge, Support, and Guide. May Allah (SWT) make our children and us from among the people of the Quran. (Ameen)
